Northam PCYC has celebrated the graduation of seven students involved in their Stepping Stones Program and Skill Hire program.
A group of five graduates completed their Certificate II in construction through the course run at PCYC.
Travis, Ben, Tyrone, Josh and Steven were all involved in the year long construction course that kicked off in May.
The group successfully completed 15 units as part of the course as well as their big project for the year which involved concreting a 42 square metre basketball court at the Northam PCYC.
Three of those same students Josh, Ben, and Travis alongside two others; Lily and Brody also graduated from the Stepping Stones program.
The program aims to re-engage young people in Year 11 and 12 who have a history of severe disengagement from mainstream education, and provide pathways to further education, training and employment.
This year the Shire of Northam through the Ranger program, and the Fresh Start Recovery Program partnered with the PCYC to provide work experience opportunities for the participating students.
Northam PCYC manager Jane Atterby said she is very proud of the achievements of all the graduates and hopes to have another group of young people graduate through both programs next year.
Ms Atterby said the group of construction students had gone through hurdles to complete their course, being the final five left out of a group of 20 who started at the beginning of the year.
Representatives from Fresh Start, the Shire of Northam, PCYC WA, the Education Department, Northam Senior High School and parents and friends of the graduates were in attendance.
