The Moora Clay Target Club along with West Australian Field and Game held the Western Australian State COMPAK Championship in Moora on Sunday, March 31.
The Championship brought sporting clay shooters from across the state to compete in Moora with the day presenting perfect weather for the event.
Moora hasn't hosted a state event in more than 20 years but through a recent resurgence in membership, local sponsorship and Shire support the club ran a near flawless event with almost 60 competitors competing for the title of WA Champion and more than $1500 in cash and prizes, nearly doubling recent titles.
Moora was once a powerhouse of sporting clays clubs producing state champions, state team members and title holders such as Daryl "Rubber" Staines, Damon Brown, Michael Lewis, Lindsay Harding, Liam Clampett (juniors) and Peter Taylor (Veterans).
The COMPAK course opened tightly after the first 50 targets with Nick Melanko and Ben Sgro tied for the first half after shooting 48/50 both with 25 target breaks on Ground 1.
The following 50 targets saw Nick Melanko pull away in the lead picking up three extra targets to 95/100 to pull ahead of Clayton Dennis and Ben Sgro on 92/100.
Paul Pitaro Shot his first ever 25 target break in sporting clays and followed it up with another 25 break to make it 50 straight a humungous achievement in Sporting Clays.
