THE combined agent's monthly cattle sale at Manjimup saw only a small yarding of cattle.
Elders and Primaries combined to offer just 45 trade and store cattle but despite the small numbers, the sale attracted buying support from most sectors of the industry.
Craig Martin, Elders Manjimup and Bradley Kammann, Primaries Manjimup, agreed the better cattle sold strongly.
"Cow prices were strong with store cows making to 180c/kg and trade cows bringing from 222-230c/kg," Mr Martin said.
"A lack of competition saw light cattle struggle with lightweight heifers making 200c/kg."
"Good cows sold well with stores and lightweight bulls more difficult to sell," Mr Kammann said.
Topping the cow market for both per head and liveweight values was a solitary Droughtmaster cross cow weighing 630kg from R & A Morgan that sold to Western Meat Packers (WMP) for $1449 and 230c/kg.
The scenario was repeated for the next pen containing a 525kg Shorthorn cow that returned $1166 and 222c/kg.
MO & M Puttick collected $1232 and 220c/kg for a Simmental cow weighing 560kg that was purchased by WMP.
Local graziers WD & IM Phillips & Son nominated a few descriptions of cattle in the sale with their prices topping at $1008 and 260c/kg for four Angus bulls weighing 388kg selling to Livestock Shipping Services.
N & A Vellios paid $780 and 260c/kg for a 300kg Angus steer from the Phillips draft, while V & V Walsh parted with $751 and 190c/kg for a 395kg Santa Gertrudis heifer.
KA & H Dalgleish also had several cattle in the sale with a pen of four Murray Grey cross steers weighing 270kg topping their prices with the Vellios family paying $756 and 270c/kg.
Heifers topped at 200c/kg on a few occasions.
Two Angus cross heifers from WL & VM Kammann weighing 298kg were knocked down to SS Stoiche & Son for $595.
A single 335kg Santa Gertrudis heifer from the Phillips consignment sold to V & V Walsh for $670, while local buyer John Barber paid $550 for six Murray Grey heifers averaging 275kg from the Dalgleish draft.
