Federals players travelled to York on May 5 to battle it out with the mighty York Roos.
With the new points system introduced this year early wins are vital to both sides as clubs set their sights on September.
RESERVES
The first term saw Federals Reserves enter the arena knowing that a win was required to maintain top spot on the ladder and they produced a solid team effort both in defence and attack against a determined York outfit who were kicking with the advantage of a three-goal breeze.
Federals managed to kick 3.1 while York kicked 2.4 giving Feds a slender lead of three points.
The second term saw Federals with the use of the tricky breeze sending the ball into the forward area, while the back six held firm.
York found it difficult to duplicate their first term effort giving Federals a 16-point lead at the long break. Federals 6.5 to York 3.7.
The second half of the game belonged to Federals as they slowly but surely increased their lead in each quarter with York finding it difficult to break clear of the shackles applied by Federals who kicked seven goals while York could only muster two goals.
Final scores: Federals 13.7 (85) to York 5.10 (40).

LEAGUE
The league game once again was a must win for Federals to keep them at the top of the league ladder, with only percentage separating the top three sides.
Early in the first term most supporters thought Federals were up for a tough encounter as York bounced out of the blocks applying enormous pressure and close checking, as Federals tried to break free.
Unfortunately for York they were unable to sustain this effort and as the quarter ticked by Federals' superior leg speed and skills saw them break free and establish a 17-point lead at the first change.
Federals 4.2 to York 1.3.
The second term was all one-way traffic with Federals' back six in excellent form, repelling York's forward thrusts, keeping them scoreless for the term while delivering the ball into the forward area, allowing Federals to kick a further 3.4; taking a handy 39-point lead into the half-time break.
The last two quarters, unfortunately for York, was all one-way traffic as Federals showed superior fitness skill and leg speed allowing them to pepper the goals, kicking 10.7 while restricting York's forward entries allowing them 3.1 for the last two terms.
Federals ran out eventual winners 17.13 (115) to York 4.4 (28).
