A 36-year-old Northam woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting an 85-year-old pensioner and embarking on a crime spree in the Avon Valley town on Sunday morning.
Police claim the offender approached an 85-year-old woman and her carer on Fitzgerald Street just after 9am.
The pair were attending a Mother's Day breakfast.
The accused allegedly rushed the carer in an aggressive manner before grabbing the 85-year-old's handbag, causing the pensioner to fall off the curb and onto the road.
The victim received a fractured left shoulder as a result of the incident and will need to undergo further medical treatment.
Afterwards, the woman entered the Northam Boulevard Shopping Centre and committed more offences, including another assault and committing indecent acts in public.
The woman was arrested, with community members helping to detain the offender.
Detective Sergeant Anthony Pymm called the attack 'cowardly' and asked any witnesses to come forward.
The woman was charged with aggravated robbery, grievous bodily harm and committing indecent acts in public.
She was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday.
