Ratepayers within the Shire of Northam are being encouraged to take part in the 2019 Native Tree Subsidy Program.
The 'greening' initiative is targeting land owners with properties larger than 2000 metres squared by providing the opportunity to purchase discounted trays of native tube stock from WA Farm Trees to assist with revegetation.
With the late start in rain, the program has now been extended to the July, 14 to allow residents to take advantage of the subsidy.
The Shire of Northam chief executive Jason Whiteaker welcomed the extension.
"This is a very positive community initiative that provides residents will the opportunity to revegetate areas within their property to assist in reducing environmental impacts associated with erosion, water runoff and salinity," he said.
"In a broader application as the vegetation establishes the revegetated areas will provide fauna habitat and will potentially aid in reconnecting pockets of remnant vegetation."
A variety of local native species are available, however the offer will be based on a first come first served basis.
Landowners can apply for their discounted tube stock natives by collecting vouchers directly from the Shire Administration Centre or by emailing a request to the Northam Shire on records@northam.wa.gov.au.
Vouchers will need to be presented at WA Farm Trees to receive the discounted tray price of $22.
For owners of smaller properties within the Shire an additional program will run later in July in recognition of National Tree Day.
