A group of long-serving Wheatbelt police officers have been awarded for their contribution to the community at a medal presentation last month.

At a ceremony in Northam, Assistant Commissioner Jo McCabe and Commander Alan Morton joined the Wheatbelt Distinct management team in acknowledging the contribution made by each officer.
Among the 20 officers receiving service medals, Inspector Jack Lee was given the National Medal for Service 45 Year Clasp, Northam officer in charge Senior Sergeant David Hornsby was reckognised for his 35 years of service and Merredin officer in charge Senior Sergeant Mark Tobiassen for 30 years.
Assistant Commissioner McCabe said the importance of any form of recognition should never be underestimated.
"Several of the recipients made heartfelt speeches after receiving their service medals, acknowledging the support of their friends and family, and the guidance provided by colleges along the way," she said.
"One officer revealed the presentation was being made on the day of his wedding anniversary and insisted the medal be awarded to his wife in recognition of her contribution to his career."
Certificates of Outstanding Performance were also awarded to police and a member of the public.
Probationary Constable Lisa Nyenhuis, first class constables Tracey Nesbitt and Luck Moyo and community member Dr Roy Lersa were given the award following an incident involving a violent person in which Probationary Constable Nyenhuis and First Class Constable Nesbitt were injured.
First Class Constable Moyo was off-duty at the time but along with Dr Lersa were at the scene and offered assistance detained the offender.
