The second annual Career Directions 2019 careers expo has connected more than 200 Wheatbelt locals to industry professionals.
Held last Wednesday at Northam Recreation Centre, jobseekers explored employment and training options and engaged with employers and service providers from across the region and beyond.
Career Directions 2019 was attended by over 160 students from both private and government secondary schools from across the Wheatbelt.
A Directions spokesperson said the event was specifically designed and delivered by Directions Workforce Solutions for the Wheatbelt community and featured a special focus on Aboriginal employment and training services.
Northam Shire president Chris Antonio opened the event and local Indigenous elders Deb Moody and Kathy Davis presented a Welcome to Country.
The event included exhibits from almost 40 industry, training and employer representatives including Wheatbelt Volunteering Hub, Water Corporation, Shire of Northam, WA Police, Western Power, CBH Group and Defence Force Australia.
Industries represented included banking and finance, community services, public administration, agriculture, retail, travel, construction and more.
Students and jobseekers had the opportunity to explore learning options and pathways to their career goals thanks to exhibitors including the Engineering Institute of Technology, Curtin University, Muresk Institute, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, the Australian Institute of Fitness and Central Regional TAFE.
Features of the day included a visit by the RAC Rescue helicopter, door prizes courtesy of local sponsors and a popular selfie booth by Wheatbelt Health Network.
