WITH the festive season having come to a close, it signals the beginning of a new bull selling season.
The first sale of the new season will be the Nutrien Livestock Great Southern Blue Ribbon All Breeds Bull Sale on Tuesday, January 12.
The sale will be held at the Mount Barker Regional Saleyards at Mt Barker following the female breeder sale, commencing not before 1pm.
The yarding for the sale will be similar to last year and when the sale gets underway buyers will be able to choose from a line-up of 52 bulls from seven vendors, representing four British and European beef breeds.
Once again the quality of this year's bulls is outstanding and the big offering means there will be plenty of quality genetics for buyers to choose from.
Nutrien Livestock southern livestock manager Bob Pumphrey said it would be an outstanding line-up of bulls on offer from regular vendors.
"When we inspected them eight weeks ago they were in magnificent condition and I expect they will have only gone forward from there," Mr Pumphrey said.
"The evenness of the line-up I believe is the best I have seen offered in the sale.
"There is a good genetics right through the catalogue and the different breeds and in each breed there are some real standout bulls to choose from.
"The quality we offer just keeps getting better and better every year, which is a credit to the breeders and their breeding programs.
"The vendors have certainly done a great job looking after them and as a result they will present very well, they are an absolute credit to the vendors.
"Intending purchasers will certainly be able to buy with confidence."
The Simmental and Black Simmental line-up of bulls will kick the sale off with two studs offering 11 bulls between them.
Offering first in the run will be long-time vendors Kevin and Janice Hard, Naracoopa stud, Denmark, who will present one Black Simmental sire alongside six traditional Simmental sires.
The Black Simmental in the line-up is sired by Webb Tank WEBPK 090 and is a full base brother to Naracoopa Neumann N15, which the stud sold for $16,500 to the Woonallee Simmental stud, South Australia, in this sale in 2019.
The stud's traditional Simmental sires will again show all the traits Naracoopa bulls are renowned for including docility, length, muscle, high growth and top maternal traits.
Also offering in the Simmental run again will be the WA College of Agriculture, Denmark's Inlet Views stud with four traditional Simmental sires.
The four bulls display plenty of early growth, well-shaped muscle expression, plenty of carcase thickness and stand on strong legs and feet.
The Charolais breed will enter the ring second, with Doug and Dani Giles's Quicksilver stud, Newdegate, representing the breed.
They will offer a top team of nine quality, soft Charolais bulls which are majority polled or poll scurred.
The Giles family is commercially focused in their stud operation and aim to breed well-muscled, easy-finishing, low birthweight, polled bulls.
Next in the ring will be a team of six Red Angus sires from the Smith family's Kildarra stud, Albany.
All six Kildarra bulls are easy doing bulls that are well framed with good structure, have plenty of depth and soft fleshing.
The Angus breed will be the last into the ring but by no means the least as it will have the biggest representation of bulls, with three studs offering 27 bulls between them.
The Ponderosa stud, Albany, owned by Greg Brown, will kick the run off with a team of three bulls that have both visual appeal and the figures to match.
Two of the bulls are AI-bred and are sired by Deer Valley Patriot 3222 and Granite Ridge Kaiser K26, while the stud's lead bull is by Koojan Hills Admiral K166.
The volume vendor in this section of the sale and the sale in general will be Darren and Narrelle Burrow, Mason Valley stud, Youngs Siding.
The Burrows will offer a team of 17 bulls which all show volume, thickness and do-ability and there are bulls in the team suitable for the needs of all producers and operation types.
A feature of the Mason Valley offering will be its first progeny by Cherylton Highlander M83, which the stud purchased in 2018 for $15,000.
Rounding out the vendors in the Angus section is the Pratt family, Ballawinna stud, Albany, with a team of six bulls.
Vendors are offering free freight on bulls to buyers who purchase bulls at $5000 or more, up to 500km from Mt Barker.
