Stirlings to Coast Farmers (SCF), will hold its spring field days on Thursday, September 7 at Mt Barker and Friday, September 8 at Woogenellup.
According to SCF chief executive officer Lizzie Von Perger, the field days will feature an example of a shearing shed review conducted by the SafeSheds program, developed by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and WA Shearing Industry Association (WASIA).
"The review looks at shearing shed design and equipment to identify opportunities for improving safety, animal welfare and shearer efficiency," Ms Von Perger said.
The shearing shed safety program is a best practice guide and assessment resource which has been developed with input from right across the industry and is supported by AWI and WASIA.
These organisations have also partnered with mobile inspection tool, iAuditor by SafetyCulture to provide the SafeSheds checklists in a mobile, digital, interactive format.
This tool allows woolgrowers and shearing contractors to self-assess their wool harvesting workplace and work together to identify and rectify safety hazards from their mobile devices.
"The field days will also see presentations on chemical residues in grain from CBH and international grain markets from Rabobank before we head out into the paddock," Ms Von Perger said.
Once out in the paddock, participants will hear about SCF projects and local onfarm trials to see first-hand how new varieties and practices are performing in local conditions.
A highlight at the Mt Barker day will be the launch of the new InterGrain barley variety, Neo.
At this trial site, farmers will be able to see Neo grown side by side with RGT Planet and Maximus CL.
Other trials to be viewed on this day include the new Grains Research and Development Corporation invested RiskWi$e nitrogen use efficiency trial, as well as a pasture legumes trial being run by Murdoch University, and SCF's winter wheat variety trial.
"Our field days provide a chance for farmers to get off-farm, network with peers, and gain practical knowledge from other local farmers and industry that they can apply on their own farms," Ms Von Perger said.
