Top flight genetics in Droughtmaster National Female Sale draft

A total of 200 stellar lots have been catalogued the 43rd National Droughtmaster Female Sale being held at the Gympie Saleyards on Saturday, March 9, from 9am.

In all, 184 unjoined females and 16 joined females are to be offered by 48 Queensland-based seedstock producers this year.

Droughtmaster Australia sales and events manager Leigh Eleison said the sale will see the largest genetic offering of females for any multi-vendor sale for the breed this year.

"Prospective buyers will have access to some of the breed's best, registered females," Ms Eleison said.

"Historically this sale has been well supported by vendors and buyers from all over Queensland and Northern New South Wales," she said.

"This sale continues to gain momentum, and the 2024 draft is yet another quality offering of females.

"Making their sale debuts as vendors this year are the View Field; Traveston Downs; Reesville; Urban; Bellarine; Glenn Valley; Mountview; Ironhide; Seymour R; and Seymour T studs."

A gross of $1,020,500 was achieved for the 2023 sale, at which 172 females sold to average $5933 for a clearance of 93 per cent and a high price of $37,000.

"Value for money buying was evident last year, with 81pc of the lots selling for under $7500 each. Further to this, 17pc of the draft sold for $3000 or less, and 38pc were snapped up by buyers for between $3001 to $5000."

On the bulk buyer front, two buyers bought 12 females apiece, one bought six, three purchased five each, 11 took home four each, and 11 more bought a trio apiece. In all, purchasers of more than two females accounted for 70pc of the lots sold.

The majority of the buyers last year hailed from the south east zone of Queensland. Together these purchasers bought 94 females at an average of $5544 per head. Support from the southern and central zones was also strong with 26 lots heading to the former at an average of $6621, and 39 going to the latter at $5324 per head.

All females selected for this year's sale will be available for inspection from 3pm on Friday, March 8, with the Cooloola Custon Stockfeed barbecue to follow from 6.30pm at the saleyards.

A bulk buyers rebate will be offered to purchasers of eight or more lots at the sale. Qld-based buyers will receive a $50 rebate per lot, while those from all other states will receive a $75 rebate.
